Kool Koalas

Koalas usually do not need to drink water, they get sufficient water from the leaves they eat. but in times of a good old fashioned hot Aussie heat wave  all the gum leaves dry up, and that means no more moisture for the poor koalas, this is when we see koalas getting crafty finding water!

Check out these little koalas getting their cool on..

Meet little Meadow, she was getting a bit too cosy during a heatwave, so an animal lover in Adelaide took her in and gave her a nice cold bath to cool down...

"She kept looking at me and looked like she wanted something, so I poured some water in my palm, and the koala drank it at once."
But that was not enough.
- Mrs Sun

After sustaining long eye contact with Mrs Sun's husband for several minutes, the koala succumbed to the prospect of a cool drink of water and climbed down from the tree.
Not only did the koala hit the streets of Athelstone for a leisurely stroll, it almost threatened to get behind the wheel of Mrs Sun's car.
"When I opened the car door, she was poking her head to look inside my car, I guess for more water?," she said.

Adorable Koala Just Wants to Cuddle!

How adorable is this!
We were out enjoying the warm evening  watering the parched garden after a very hot day of 43 C.

Chris spots a koala climbing down a tree. This koala was watching the water that sprayed from the hose. Due to a heatwave,  all of the yummy gum leaves that koalas eat and get their moisture from had dried up. So I knew he was thirsty.

Chris grabbed a tub of water for this koala (who we named Toby). Not surprisingly he didn't know what to do with it.
Chris wet the koalas mouth with the water and soon Toby got the hang of drinking!  He couldn't get enough! He gripped the tub tightly with his soft paw.

I had made a new best friend in Toby - he didn't want to leave my side, he even tried to cuddle and just hang on to me. Poor little poppet!

We left that bowl of water out for Toby who stayed in our front yard trees for 2 days and then he continued his journey.

This would have to be the friendliest wild koala I have ever met!
I have added the video at the end of this post

Meet the Neiggh - bours.

Sunday morning is now complete -
-Early walk
-Selfie with the neighbour's horse
-Hit of tennis
-Fresh coffee brewed
 Perfect!

I am not sure what the names are of these two horses that reside in paddock at the end of the road, but they are very sociable and happy to have our company (and a bag of carrots too).
Next to this private paddock is cleared land that was bequested to the council for the locals to enjoy. Its a perfect picnic spot as the beautiful views sweep over Adelaide out to the ocean and in the evening sunset.

'Where is the CORN on this UNI! - Chris, always the joker.

Suddenly Spring!

Hello Spring!  Although still officially Winter, (for one more day) we have been spoiled with warm sunshine and temperatures in the low 20s.
Last week was just gorgeous, driving down the hill to work ..  again spoiled by the sight of  kangaroos  eating grass on the hill sides, views of the city - so crystal clear in the soft morning sun.

This awesome weather has has kept up for the weekend. YaY! so, Chris & I grab a back pack and head out for a walk through the National Park. there are some beautiful tracks, my favourite is an easy enough beautiful, hour and  a bit walk which is perfect for Saturday or Sunday mornings.

Good Morning!
